When things get intense...

it's time to get into a tent.*
(*actual words made up by Mr. Kitchen Hand when MC Junior requested a campfire song ;P)

As you've probably guessed, we love camping.

Why?

Well, we kinda like just hanging out :

Plus, the scenery is pretty good too:

(The speck in the middle ground is the Skewer family)

And there are marshmallows:

Not to mention the new friends we get to meet (pardon the pics, these wildlife models were a tad skittish)

(Clockwise from top left: Kookaburra, Monitor lizard, unidentified bird and possible dingo)

I thought I'd also share a few pics of my camp "kitchen" with you:

Top: Kitchen table, Bottom L: Stove, R: Kitchen Sink

And this wouldn't be a food blog if we didn't have any food - some makeshift crepes and sauteed apples.

I meant to jot down how I made the crepes but forgot, I'm sure you have your own favourite recipe anyway. As for the apples, I peeled, cored and thinly sliced 2 apples. Then I heated some butter in a pan and cooked the apples very gently over med-low heat. I added about a tablespoon or two of sugar and kept cooking until the apples were very soft and almost translucent. A squeeze of lemon juice added a tart finish.

And guess what? I'm finished too :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I would say the best part of camping is definitely the smores. There just aren't enough smores in my life.

You guys have camping down to an art! What fun. Some of m favorite memories from childhood are camping trips with some family friends. Your kids will remember these trips forever. Great photos shaz!

Oh how fun! It is simply too cold to camp in Melbourne at the moment. Where is the location?

Those are the funniest made-up-on-the-spot-camping-song-lyrics ever! That guy is hilarious!

Ok, I have to admit that I am not a happy camper. Husband is but doesn't camp anymore thanks to me. But these lovely photos are indeed tempting - gorgeous day, campsite and yum crepes! I think I'd even tag along...

Joanne - hi :) Y'know, I haven't yet had a s'more - no graham crackers, got to make soem first but I always run out of time.

Heavenly Housewife - some might call it obsessive :)

Hungry Dog - thanks! I love "unplugging" the kids every now and again.

Trissa - never too late to start. It's heaps of fun.

grace - I'm sure you're just being modest hon. I've seen your amazing cakes.

Vanille - it works well when it's sunny but a bit harder when it rains :)

Anh - :) It's actually not too tricky because I have a gas stove and non-stick frypan.

Liz - yup, food always tastes better in the open.

3 hungry tummies - it's north, near Seal Rocks

Not Mr KH - get back in the kitchen!

I've never been camping but your photos look very nice and serene (which is what I'd hope camping would be like but I suspect might not be my reality as I'm new to it all :) ). Fabulous crepes, I can't believe you made them so well while camping! :D

How cool! You know what, I've been day dreaming about doing this - going camping somewhere and cooking in a makeshift kitchen.

I'm impressed, crepes while camping, wow! This post brings back memories of when my family and I would go camping. Most of my childhood memories are of being in a campground, exploring new towns and playing board games outside on the campground picnic table, oh so many! We went out a few times a month.

Thanks everyone, the campsite isn't too remote and we had the benefit of running water and hot showers - just had to go fetch the water ourselves. We're hopign to one day go completely "off the grid" but probably not till the kids are older.
